Patient Results
Case 1
In April 2015, approximately three months after starting Humira, patient embarked on and completed a five-week Amazonian medicine intervention with PlantMed while continuing Humira. After her return, all of her uncontrolled symptoms of Crohn’s disease had fully resolved. Since completing this retreat, she has continued taking Humira as directed by her physicians. Surveillance colonoscopy performed six months post retreat noted complete resolution of her Crohn’s (see addendum).
The combination of Amazonian medicine may have contributed to her remission of Crohn’s. Patient attributes the successful remission of her Crohn’s to the addition of Amazonian medicine while continuing conventional treatment (see narrative in attached addendum)
Case 2
Patient subsequently completed an Amazonian medicinal program of 10-day duration with continued guidelines for the following three months. Patient fulfilled these recommendations and a complete resolution of the debilitating, recurrent fatigue was noted. Follow up laboratory testing performed in 2017 noted a EBV PCR test negative for signs of detected virus or active replication.
The Amazonian medicine intervention in 2016 appears to be the intervention that allowed for a full resolution of patient’s recurring severe fatigue. During the following four years, patient has not reported any recurrence of his debilitating fatigue.
Case 3
Patient was able to participate in PlantMed’s 2016 three-week program. She continued and fulfilled her recommendations as directed by the Amazonian practitioners. Patient experienced both immediate and steady improvement. During the course of her management, patient was effectively able to titrate down and cease her extensive medications which had included duloxetine, gabapentin, Oxycontin, methadone, ondansetron, lorazepam, medical marijuana, and Toradol. Patient reports resumption and full capacity to complete all activities of daily living with near total resolution of her symptoms. She continues to follow with the Amazonian food recommendations.
The intervention of Amazonian medicine was the only intervention that led to patient’s symptom remission and resolution. Patient’s therapeutic progress required a dedicated multiyear therapeutic practice on her part.
Case 4
Patient elected to participate in a PlantMed organized dieta, completed her Amazonian recommendations, and was deemed treated successfully by the Amazonian practitioners at completion. Upon return to the United States, her laboratory tests demonstrated improvement in thyroid control and antibodies. Due to these positive results, patient’s endocrinologist began cautiously titrating down her thyroid medications and eventually discontinued her thyroid medications by April 2017. On follow up testing in August 2017, her endocrinologist continued to note full remission with normal thyroid laboratory levels. Patient remains in remission and has not needed any further thyroid intervention.
The intervention of Amazonian medicine appears to be the only intervention that allowed patient to obtain remission as opposed to continued medication management. Patient has not transitioned to hypothyroidism as is typical with autoimmune thyroid disease progression.
Case 5
Patient elected to participate in PlantMed’s initial 5-week retreat. Due to the positive benefits she was experiencing, patient elected to remain in Peru to continue with Amazonian medicine for a total of four months. She reported complete resolution of her symptoms by three months. After four months, patient was deemed cured and returned to the United States. Her Lyme disease testing upon return did not note any signs of active Lyme infection. She reports, “I am in full health. I am working full time. It saved my life as far as I am concerned.” She has not had a recurrence of her symptoms.
Chronic Persistent Lyme disease, formally termed Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome, is a debilitating syndrome of symptoms that does not currently have successful treatments. Patients are often trialed on long antibiotic courses without success. In this case, patient suffered for two years with an array of symptoms which only remitted with the usage of Amazonian medicine.
