Retreats at Rios Nete

plant medicine treatment

The Amazon region is rich with plant diversity, one of the most diverse environments in the world. And the indigenous people have learned to utilize this diversity to treat human diseases. But this knowledge, passed orally from generation to generation, is fading away. Before it disappears completely, we at PlantMed would like to make it more widely available and studied.

The Amazon is a living pharmacy, with thousands of varieties of plant life that hold unexplored healing potential. But fewer than five percent of the Amazon’s plants have been analyzed for their medicinal properties.

Treatment at the retreat will be grounded in the Shipibo tradition, which revolves around whole plant treatments and accompanying dietary restrictions. These remedies will be prepared by brewing one, or a mix of, plants, and may be made from bark, roots, leaves, or flowers. Traditional adjunctive therapies, such as herbal baths and massage, will often be prescribed as well.

Focus on Autoimmune diseases

Retreats will focus on autoimmune diseases. These have been seen to respond incredibly well to indigenous treatment.

Some of the illnesses that we are considering for this trip include: diabetes, Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid disease, and Lyme disease. This is not an inclusive list, and other autoimmune diseases may be considered.

Participants will be evaluated by the medical director to ensure that they are stable and healthy enough to participate in the retreat.

Once in Peru, for each participant, the Amazonian medical practitioner will conduct a holistic assessment of his or her physical, mental, emotional and spiritual state. The participant will then be given a plant medicine treatment protocol intended to address what the medical practitioner has determined to be the root cause of the participant's ailment.

What's included

All treatment, food and drink will be provided during the retreat, as well as hotel accommodations. As much as possible, food will be locally sourced. All drinking water will be purified and an air conditioning unit in room can be provided if needed.

During the retreat, a Western M.D will be available to monitor participants closely for any health issues or side effects. They will also be recording treatment plans and results during the retreat for later evaluation.

After the retreat, records and results of the treatments will be made available to participants’ health care providers.
